Daggett Motors to ASCS Sprints on Dirt Win at Merritt
By T.J. Buffenbarger,
MERRITT, Mich. (August 16, 2008) - Dustin Daggett completed
the season sweep of both Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor
Reinz feature events at Merritt Speedway by winning Saturday?s 25-lap
feature event.
Daggett started on the front row and drove away to his sixth ASCS SOD
victory of the 2008 season in the Mott Motorsports car.
Daggett and Gregg Dalman started on the front row. Dalman led the first five
circuits before Daggett slid underneath him in turn one to take the lead.
On lap seven Ralph Brakenberry flipped hard in turn two. Jim Lingar and
Gavin Hunyady were also collected in the incident. All three drivers walked
from their cars under their own power, but had to retire from the event.
Daggett led at the restart, but Ryan Grubaugh made a charge through the
field. Grubaugh started sixth and moving up to third on lap 15. Eventually
Grubaugh utilized a pair of cautions for spins by Ralph Brakenberry to move
up to second, but could not catch Daggett. Dalman, Tim Norman, and Dain
Naida rounded out the top five.

Daggett Digs ASCS SOD From 11th at Merritt
By T.J. Buffenbarger,
MERRITT, Mich. (July 26, 2008) - Dustin Daggett from Portland
Michigan won Saturday night's Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by
Victor Reinz feature event at the Merritt Speedway. Daggett started in 11th
and dodged several accidents on his way to victory in the Mott Motorsports
car.
"The car was perfect for the feature," said Daggett in victory lane. "It was
difficult to pass during the heat races, but my Dad, Tom (Daggett), Phil
(Mott) and the rest of the crew made some adjustments and we were great for
the feature."
Louie Carufel and Tim Champlin started on the front row for the 25-lap
feature event. Carufel jumped into the lead with Champlin falling in behind
him with Dain Naida in third. Naida and Champlin battled for several laps
for second when they nearly made contact in turns three and four. Naida
checked up and Gary Fast ended up spinning. Tim Norman had nowhere to go,
hit Fast, and flipped in turn four. ASCS SOD point leader Brett Mann was
also collected in the incident. Only Mann was able to restart.
Carufel led during the restart while deeper in the pack Daggett wasted no
time using the high side to move through the pack. By lap eight he moved
past Naida for second and set sail after Carufel. Daggett pulled along
Carufel one lap later to challenge for the lead when the caution appeared
for Aaron Shaffer's spin in turn four.
After the restart Daggett moved around the top side of Carufel in turns one
and two and took the lead. Daggett continued to open up his advantage when
the caution reappeared when Jake Stebner spun coming off turn two. Mann had
nowhere to go and slammed into Stebner. John Gall and Joe Bares were also
collected in the incident. Mann and Stebner retired from the event while
Gall and Bares were able to restart.
The final ten laps Daggett opened up a large lead and drove off to the
feature win. Carufel held on for second with Champlin, Naida, and Ryan
Grubagh finishing fifth after starting 17th and going to the tail for a tire
change early in the feature.
Mann's and Norman's crashes sent shockwaves throughout the Sprints on Dirt
point standings. Mann lost the lead to Gregg Dalman in the MAHLE/Clevite
Short Track Challenge and his advantage over Ben Rutan in the season long
point standings shrunk dramatically. Norman also dropped back several spots
in the short track challenge.

Dustin Daggett Dominates Opening Night of ASCS Northern Summer Nationals
at Ohsweken
By Rich Vleck,
OHSWEKEN, Ont. (July 4, 2008)- Dustin Daggett was one of the
strongest cars all night long at Ohsweken, but he needed a big chunk of luck
early in the feature to open up the door to his fifth career win at his
favorite racetrack.
Daggett was the beneficiary of a lap seven crash, which took out the top
three runners and opened up the track to one of Ohsweken's Most Dominant
Cars. The Portland, MI driver, who had captured the last four ASCS Sprints
on Dirt Features at Ohsweken, pulled away over the final 18 laps through
expert maneuvers for the win.
"I just love this race track," said the driver of the Mott Motorsports No.
2M in Victory Lane. "Those three guys getting caught up in that wreck made
it a lot easier for us."
Daggett started in sixth by virtue of the Color Loco Redraw, and was up to
fourth on lap seven when leader Fred Cade collided with the lapped car of
Ben Rutan, throwing his No. 12c sideways and blocking the track for Gary
Fast and Blake Breen, who were second and third at the time. It would send
them all to the back and on the restart Daggett was the leader.
One lap later the yellow flag would again fly for a major wreck in turn
three. From that point on the race would run caution free, and would see
?Double D? work the traffic to perfection for the win.
With the win, Daggett locked himself into the Saturday Night 30-lap A-Main,
along with the rest of the top-four.
Mike Stelter would run second behind Daggett for the final 18 laps, closing
the gap to within three car lengths half way through the event. Daggett
would make a three-wide pass under lapped cars on lap 15 though and would
check out from that point.
Stelter's second place run locked him in, along with Scott Kreutter who
pulled even with Stelter on two occasions and would hang on for third.
Bobby Breen, who won the second B-Main, rocketed up from his 20th place
starting position to finish in fourth, also assuring him a spot in the first
four rows of Saturday's A-main.
Ryan Grubaugh was stealth-like moving through the pack, running up from 18th
to round out the top-five.
Keith Dempster won the Four Laps of Fame Dash and would end up sixth, ahead
of Dave Dykstra, who scored a career-best in seventh. Jared Zimbardi came
from the B-Mains to finish in 8th.
Kyle Patrick was strong early on but had nose wing problems and would fade
to ninth, holding off Brett Mann, who won the first B-Main.
A total of 45 cars checked into the pits for the first of two nights of this
great event. An even mix of Patriots, SOD and locals pleased a healthy crowd
on a picture-perfect night for racing.
Among some of the favorites to watch the feature from the pits were ASCS
Patriot Point Leader Bryan Howland, defending ASCS SOD Champion Tim Norman,
ASCS Patriot frontrunner Don Adamczyk and defending Humberstone Speedway
Champion Rob Pietz.

Long Wins ASCS Sprints on Dirt North vs. South Shootout at Eldora!
By T.J. Buffenbarger,
ROSSBURG, Ohio (June 14, 2008) - Darren Long kicked off the
North/South Shootout between the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented
by Victor Reinz and the National Racing Alliance with a victory at the
legendary Eldora Speedway. Long passed early leader Ben Rutan and held on
through several restarts for his fifth feature win during his 2008 campaign.
Former ASCS Sprints on Dirt champion Sean Robinson and Ben Rutan started on
the front row for the 20-lap feature event. Rutan took the lead while Long
immediately started challenging for the lead. Rutan and Long traded slide
jobs before Long took the top position.
Two time ASCS Sprints on Dirt champion Dustin Daggett moved swiftly through
the pack from his 9th starting spot taking over fourth position on lap 9.
With the leaders out front Daggett caught a break when Dain Naida and Joe
Bares spun between turns one and two. Brett Mann had to take evasive action
and took a light rollover to bring out the red flag. Mann was uninjured, but
was unable to restart while Naida and Bares joined the tail of the field.
Long had young Jared Horstman on his back bumper for the restart, but was
able to open up a three car length advantage. Daggett started to challenge
Rutan for the third spot when the caution came out for 2007 ASCS Sprints on
Dirt rookie of the year Ryan Ruhl riding the wall between turns three and
four. Ruhl had to retire from the event.
After the restart Long pulled away while Rutan and Daggett exchanged slide
jobs. The battling allowed fifth place Butch Schroeder to move up and pass
both Rutan and Daggett to move up to third positions. With laps winding down
though it was all Long out front over Horstman, Schroeder, Daggett, and
(1H).

Norman Nabs Win in 100th ASCS Sprints on Dirt Feature at Crystal!
By T.J. Buffenbarger,
CRYSTAL, Mich. (May 31, 2008) - The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints
on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz celebrated Crystal Motor Speedway's 100th
point paying program for the series with a thrilling feature event with
three time and defending series champion Tim Norman picking up the victory.
Norman, driving the Joe Gaerte owned GLR Investments, Gaerte Engines
sponsored Maxim chassis, started seventh and ran down John Gall and drove
masterfully through lapped traffic to separate himself from the rest of the
field and score the victory.
"Its sweet to win the 100th feature at Crystal," Norman said in victory lane
about the feature win at a facility he often refers to as his favorite on
the tour. "This was the first night on a new engine tonight and everything
worked out great."
Gall and Ryan Ruhl started on the front row for the 25-lap feature event.
Gall drove into the lead while Ruhl ended up driving off the top of the race
track on the first lap. Ruhl came back onto the track without causing a
caution flag.
Gall continued to lead while Norman worked his way through the field.
Eventually Gall, second place Ben Rutan, and Norman broke away from the pack
and approached lapped traffic. Norman patently waited for Gall to open up
room on the bottom lane in turns one and two and took the lead with just a
handful of laps to go. Norman then drove away from the pack in heavy lapped
traffic.
While Gall dropped back, J.R. Stewart made charge over the last two laps to
take the runner up position. Mann, Gall, and Rutan rounded out the top five.
Dustin Daggett earned JE/SRP Pistons hard charger honors after starting 15th
and finishing sixth.
Next week the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz
tackles a two day weekend with Friday night?s event taking place at the
Cherry Speedway in Fife Lake, Michigan. Saturday the tour heads down M66 to
the I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan for the first leg of the Engler
Machine and Tool Half Mile Master mini-series.
