A Score to Settle: Daryn Pittman Wins at Wilmot
Speedway
By Tony Veneziano, World of Outlaws PR
Director
Wilmot, WI— August 1, 2008—Daryn Pittman
had a score to settle at Wilmot Speedway in Wisconsin on Friday night. After
leading a majority of the race in the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws
Sprint Car Series inaugural visit to the track in 2006, he wound up third
after a three-car battle on the last lap sent him spinning backwards across
the finish line. He picked up that win which eluded him two years ago, on
Friday night as he led 32 of the 40 laps to earn his third A-Feature win of
the season.
The native of Owasso, Oklahoma pocketed $10,000 for the 28th win of his
Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series career, holding off
two-time defending series champion Donny Schatz and Jason Meyers for the
victory. It was his fourth career win in the state of Wisconsin and first at
Wilmot Speedway.
“Wins are tough to get and you hate to give them away and we gave that one
away two years ago,” said Pittman. “We were confident coming back in here
that we could do it. This is a unique race track and probably one of the
flattest places we go and generally makes for some good racing. You hate to
lose them, so this is a special win.”
For Pittman, the win was his third of the season, which all have come in the
last three weeks, beginning with the 25th Annual Kings Royal at Eldora
Speedway where he took home the $50,000 top prize. He also recently moved
into the Top-10 in the series standings and is up to ninth overall.
“This is a relief and it’s a lot of fun to get behind the wheel and drive
this thing now,” noted the native of Owasso, Oklahoma. “The year started off
so bad and we didn’t know what to blame. The bottom line is that I have a
great race team behind me, probably one of the best that I have ever had. I
have confidence when I show up that the car will perform and that makes a
huge difference. It proves that I didn’t forget how to drive one of these
things. I am pumped.”
The race began on Friday night with Pittman leading from the pole, with Chad
Kemenah pressuring him on the high side of the track. For each of the first
three laps, Kemenah looked high on Pittman exiting turn four as the pair
charged down the front straightaway. Pittman maintained a couple of car
length lead and had pulled away a little bit, when the first caution of the
night flew on the fourth lap.
On the restart, Pittman led, while Kemenah had his hands full with Donny
Schatz and Joey Saldana as the pair battled for third just behind him.
Schatz took the third position on the fifth lap and quickly began to
pressure Kemenah. At the same time, Kemenah was able to close in on Pittman
as he worked lapped traffic. The final caution of the night flew on the 10th
lap, giving the leaders open race track.
On the restart, Kemenah kept pace with Pittman, again looking high off the
fourth turn a couple of times for the lead. On the 13th lap, Kemenah used a
strong run through turns one and two to power his way past Pittman on the
backstraightaway and pull away on the high side of turns three and four.
A couple of laps later, the leaders were in traffic, allowing Pittman and
Schatz to close in on Kemenah. At one point, Kemenah and Pittman were
three-wide with a lapped car, with Kemenah retaining the lead.
On the 22nd lap in heavy traffic, Pittman was able to get back around
Kemenah in turns three and four for the lead. He was then able to open a
lead in traffic as Kemenah had his hands full with Schatz. Pittman would go
on to lead the rest of the way to earn the win.
“I think it was the key move that he (Kemenah) got around me and I am glad
he did,” Pittman explained. “I knew the bottom slowed up a bit, but when you
are out front it’s hard to move off the line that got you there. He
basically proved to me that the top was fast and made me move up there and
get up on the wheel and start driving harder. I felt like my car was better
on top in (turns) one and two and the bottom in (turns) three and four.
Sometimes its better to be running second and that was definitely the case
tonight.”
Pittman has been running very strong the last few weeks aboard the Titan
Garages Maxim and cannot wait to get back in the car on Saturday for the
finale of the Badger Classic at Charter Raceway Park in Beaver Dam,
Wisconsin, where he has won three times in his career with the World of
Outlaws. While he worked hard on the track to win the race on Friday night,
he was also quick to credit his crew who put in countless hours this week on
the road and at the track in the extreme summer heat.
“We added a few new crew guys and they have been awesome,” stated the
winner. “You can’t put a dollar value on team effort and the team you have
around you. You are only as good as the people that surround you. Right now,
I think we are pretty tough to beat. We are either winning or battling for
wins in the last six or seven races.”
Schatz, the two-time defending series champion lined up fifth for the 40-lap
contest and was battling his teammate Kraig Kinser early in the race, before
Kinser spun while running fourth. On the ensuing restart, Schatz got around
Joey Saldana for third. After shadowing Chad Kemenah for a number of laps,
Schatz was able to get around him for second with 11 laps to go.
“We changed a few things and actually got ourselves in a good position,”
said Schatz. “It was very untypical of my race car to get slower as the race
went on. It doesn’t normally doesn’t do that. We did a few things tonight
and learned some things and that’s a bonus.”
Jason Meyers started seventh and finished third in the GLR Investments KPC,
to earn his 30th Top-Five finish of the season. He battled Jac Haudenschild
early in the race before setting his sights on Joey Saldana. He was able to
snag third from Kemenah with just two laps to go.
“It was definitely a good run,” said Meyers. “Anytime you start seventh and
come up through there at a place that was not necessarily tough to pass, but
hard to make up ground on anyone, is a good night. You could get two and
three-wide, but it was tough to complete the pass. It was a great race
tonight. They did a heck of a job with the race track and it was a great
race for the fans.”
Craig Dollansky started 11th in the Snap-on Tools Maxim and worked his way
into the Top-Five to earn a fourth-place finish. He got around Terry McCarl
on the opening laps before passing Jason Sides on the second go-around. He
got around Kemenah with just two laps remaining to take fourth.
“We started out pretty well and then the car got a little loose on me,” said
Dollansky. “Even though we were loose, we got stronger as the race went on
and to come from 11th is a good run. It would have been nice to have had a
few more laps, but to come home fourth from where we started was a good run
for the Larry Woodward team.”
Joey Saldana finished fifth in the Budweiser/Open Joist Mopar-powered JEI,
with Kemenah who led eight laps and began the night by setting fast time in
time trials coming home sixth in the Kantor Oil Company Maxim. Kerry Madsen
was seventh in the TK Concrete Maxim, with Jac Haudenschild in the
Owens-Corning Fiberglass Maxim behind him. Jason Sides picked up his third
consecutive Top-10 finish coming home ninth in the Wetherington Tractor
Service Maxim. Steve Kinser, the 20-time series champion rounded out the
Top-10 in the Q Oil Maxim, after coming from the 20th starting spot to earn
the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award.
Schatz was able to make up ground on the leaders a couple of times in
traffic, but once he caught them, he was not able to get even with then.
Aboard the Armor All J&J, the North Dakota native remains the only driver
that has finished in the Top-10 in each of the 38 A-Feature events this
season.
“Lapped traffic was pretty tough tonight,” he noted. “There were a couple of
guys that really got themselves reared up when they saw somebody lap them.
It’s still fun to race like that, and that’s what the races are all about.
Daryn (Pittman) did a little bit better job that I did in traffic tonight.
That’s the way it goes. Second is not the end of the world for me at a short
track like this. We typically haven’t been that good at this place and I’m
glad to at least be competitive enough to be racing for a win.”
Meyers was glad to see the race end with a 30-lap green flag run on the
semi-banked 3/8-mile oval that provided close racing throughout the field.
His car was working very well in lapped traffic as he did everything he
could to catch the lead duo.
“That’s always good for us and we are always good on the long greens,” he
shared. “That plays into our part and that is what we concentrate on.
Tonight it seemed like it worked.”
The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action
on Saturday night with the finale of the Badger Classic at Charter Raceway
Park in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.

A Second Home Track: Kinser Looks for Third Consecutive
Win at Tri-State Speedway
Haubstadt, IN— July 5, 2008—Bloomington
Speedway is Steve Kinser’s home track, though Tri-State Speedway in
Haubstadt, Indiana can also be considered a home track as well for the
native of Bloomington, Indiana. The high-banked ¼-mile is just a about a
100-mile jaunt from his home, and he and his family has many ties to the
track, which is in its 51st year of operation this season.
Over the years, Kinser, the 20-time Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws
Sprint Car Series champion has had unmatched success at Tri-State Speedway.
He made his first start at the track in 1976, finishing sixth in that event,
and since that time has racked up 34 Top-Five finishes at the track,
including 21 wins. In his last two starts with the World of Outlaws at the
track, he has led all 80 laps of A-Feature competition to pick up two wins.
He will look for his third consecutive win at Tri-State Speedway this
weekend, as the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series make
their annual visit to the always racy southern Indiana track on Sunday, July
6 for an event which was postponed by rain earlier this season. It will be
the second consecutive event on a ¼-mile for the series, after a race at
Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas on Saturday.
“I’ve always enjoyed running down there at Tri-State, especially with it
being close to home,” he shared. “The Helfrich family is very special to
race for and they do a great job there. I’ve been going there since I was
just a kid, watching my dad race. I’ve had a lot of success there as well,
so it’s always fun to go there.”
In 1978, Kinser competed at Tri-State Speedway 10 times, winning all of
those events. That was also the inaugural Advance Auto Parts World of
Outlaws Sprint Car Series season, in which he won 11 A-Feature events en
route to the series title. At Tri-State Speedway in his career, he has
finished in the Top-10 in all but three of the 40 starts he has made there.
“We were fast pretty much everyone place back in those days,” said Kinser of
his early success at Tri-State Speedway. “For years, we just ran good
everywhere. We have been struggling a little bit the last few years, but we
are getting back on pace. The last couple of times I have run there, I have
run pretty good. We’ll just see what happens this year when we get there.”
Last season at the ¼-mile, Kinser lined up second for the A-Feature aboard
the Q Oil Maxim and quickly powered his way past pole sitter Danny Lasoski
to take the top spot. He was setting a blistering fast pace, as he was in
heavy lapped traffic just six laps into the 40-lap contest.
Early in the race, Paul McMahan closed in on Kinser in traffic and took a
couple of looks to the low side of the track, and took the lead briefly
coming entering the second turn, but he jumped the cushion and it took a few
laps for him to recover. Tim Kaeding likewise tried to power his way under
Kinser, but the momentum from the high side of the track helped him fend off
all challengers. Each time Kinser was credited as being the leader at the
start-finish line, thus leading wire-to-wire.
Late in the race, Kinser had to endure five cautions over the last 15 laps
of the race, but used strong restarts each time to quickly pull away from
the field. The win in 2007, gave him seven in his career with the World of
Outlaws at the track. He has finished fourth or better in each of his last
four starts at Tri-State Speedway with the series. In each of his last two
wins at the track, he stared the A-Feature on the outside of the front row
and used the momentum on the high side of the track to take the initial
lead, en route to pacing every single lap in those two events.
“On the short tracks you have to have a good night and have things go
right,” he noted of what it takes to win on ¼-miles. “It does take a little
luck to stay out of trouble. Haubstadt is a fun race track and we just enjoy
running there.”
For Kinser, who has countless memories of visiting Tri-State Speedway with
his father Bob, whom he also raced against a couple of times at the track,
he will have a chance to race against his son Kraig on Sunday at the track
in their home state of Indiana. Kraig, who competed with the World of
Outlaws from 2003-2005, during which time he claimed the 2004 Kevin Gobrecht
Rookie of the Year Award, as well as a win in the 2005 Knoxville Nationals,
while driving for his father, is in the midst of his first season behind the
wheel for Tony Stewart Racing. Prior to this season, he spent a couple of
years competing in the NASCAR Truck Series.
“It’s good to have him back out here,” said Steve. “They have been
struggling a little bit, just as we have. It’s enjoyable to have him out
here. I think he probably would like to be still doing some pavement racing,
but right now the opportunity is with the sprint cars. He’s with a good race
team and hopefully things get turned around and they run good the rest of
the year.”
Steve has won twice this season during the World of Outlaws 30th Anniversary
season, at the famed Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania and also at
Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in New York. He has 15 Top-10 finishes,
including seven consecutive. He finished second last Sunday night at Cedar
Lake Speedway in Wisconsin and was third at Huset’s Speedway on Thursday
night. He is tied with Jac Haudenschild for the fifth spot in the
championship standings and enters the pair of events this weekend with 545
career A-Feature wins with the series.
“We’re getting there,” he said. “The last few races have been pretty good.
We’ll keep working at it and hopefully can find a few things here with all
the big events coming up.”
On Sunday, July 6 at Tri-State Speedway, adult general admission tickets
will be $30, with general admission tickets for children ages 6-12 $15 and
kids 5-under will be admitted free of charge. For ticket information visit:

World of Outlaws Event at Red River Valley Speedway
Tonight, Postponed by Inclement Weather & Dangerously High Winds
West Fargo, ND— June 28, 2008— Persistent
rain along with dangerously high winds, gusting up to 50 and 60 miles per
hour have forced the postponement of the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws
Sprint Car Series originally scheduled for tonight (Saturday, June 28) at
Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, North Dakota. The event has been
rescheduled for Tuesday, August 12.
The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series has three events
remaining in the Gerdau Ameristeel Northern Tour which kicked off last night
at River Cities Speedway. In addition to the rescheduled finale of the Duel
in the Dakotas at Red River Valley Speedway on August 12, the series will
make their inaugural visit to Dacotah Speedway in Mandan on August 16,
followed by a stop at Nodak Speedway in Minot on August 17.
After his eighth A-Feature win of the season on Friday night, Donny Schatz
extended his lead in the championship standings over Jason Meyers as he
chases his third consecutive title.
The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action
on Sunday, June 29 at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin.

Patience, Perseverance & A Little Luck Pay Off for
Schatz on Wild Night at River Cities Speedway
Grand Forks, ND— June 27, 2008— On the
second lap of the first heat race on Friday at River Cities Speedway in
Grand Forks, North Dakota, Donny Schatz’s night took an unexpected turn,
which could have been disastrous. After setting fast time and lining up
fourth in the heat race, he was battling for the lead when Jac Haudenschild
spun, leaving him no place to go and severely damaging the front end of his
car.
The two-time defending Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
champion was forced to race his way into the A-Feature by way of the B-Main,
which he handily won. He used a little luck late in the 40-lap A-Feature to
inherit the lead when Jason Meyers and Kerry Madsen got together, while they
were battling for the lead. He had a late battle with Craig Dollansky to
pick up his series leading eighth A-Feature win of the 2008 season, in the
opener of the 2008 Gerdau Ameristeel Northern Tour which also served as the
opener of the Duel in the Dakotas.
“It was a good night,” said the winner after conquering the high-banked
three-tenths mile. “The car really came on at the end and we had a very good
car late in the race. We could roll through the middle in (turns) one and
two. We need lapped traffic and we got it. That allowed us to get some spots
and watch the battle-fest with the 14 (Jason Meyers) and 55 (Kerry Madsen).”
The race began with Meyers leading from the pole position with Madsen
chasing him. Sam Hafertepe Jr. moved up to third on the opening lap. Just
five laps into the 40-lap event, Meyers was already in lapped traffic. The
traffic became heavier, with Madsen able to close in a little bit, as he
looked to the low side of the track on several occasions early in the race
as he tried to track down Meyers.
The first yellow flag of the race flew on the 11th lap giving the leaders
open race track to work with. Meyers used a strong restart to maintain his
lead, as several battled ensued behind him, including Hafertepe and Mark
Dobmeier jockeying for the third position. Just a couple of laps later,
Dollansky was able to get a strong run to take the third position from
Dobmeier.
The second caution of the night came on the 19th lap just as the leaders
were about to enter traffic. Meyers used another strong restart to maintain
his lead. At this same time, Jac Haudenschild began to close on the leader
as he was running fourth.
With 15 laps remaining, Meyers was utilizing the high side of the track to
stay ahead of Madsen. The caution flew again on the 29th lap. On the
restart, it was Haudenschild and Madsen battling side-by-side for the second
spot for a number of laps. With five laps to go, Haudenschild drove deep
into the third and fourth turns, with contact ensuing which caused him to go
off the track, though he kept the car running and despite losing a few
positions, he motored on.
At the very same moment that Haudenschild had his off-track excursion,
Madsen made contact with Meyers in turns one and two as he made a bid for
the lead. This caused Meyers to spin, with Madsen then running into him.
Both cars went to the work area and returned at the tail end of the lead lap
on the restart. Madsen would finish 14th, while Meyers who led the first 35
laps of the race wound up 16th.
Schatz inherited the lead at this point, which was the 36th lap, though on
the restart he was passed by Craig Dollansky exiting the fourth turn. He
quickly battled back and on the very next lap shot around Dollansky coming
off the second turn to take the lead and ultimately the $10,000 win.
“I was kind of playing it cool,” Schatz explained of the late restart. “I
didn’t know what he was going to do on the restart. He got a run on me. He
was running the top and slid me and I just had to be calm and cool and get
back by him, which I did. It was a good race. He raced us clean and we had a
good time. I’m glad we came out on top.”
Schatz, driving the Armor All J&J for Tony Stewart Racing, became the first
driver this season to come from the B-Main to win an A-Feature event,
earning the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award in the process. His
11th-place start in the main event is the farthest back any winner has come
from this season. He remains the only driver that has finished in the Top-10
in each and every event in 2008, as he continues to chase his third
consecutive title.
“Everything happens for a reason and we had to run the B (Main),” Schatz
said. “To come from 11th to win, I am happy for these guys. They dug down
deep. It goes to show how good these guys are in adversity. We’ll come back
tomorrow night and try to do it again.”
Schatz received the winner’s trophy from Kevin Hanson of Gerdau Ameristeel
in Victory Lane, which was his 78th career Advance Auto Parts World of
Outlaws Sprint Car Series A-Feature victory. He is just three wins shy of
breaking into the Top-Five on the all-time wins list. It was his second
career win at River Cities Speedway and first with the World of Outlaws at
the track in his home state.
“It was awesome tonight,” said Schatz. “The stands were full. I think this
was one of the best crowd we have seen all season tonight. I’m glad to see
that for the folks here and they got to see a good race. They can’t say
there wasn’t any passing, because the guy who started 11th won. I’m glad to
have that.”
Schatz patiently worked his way to the front after starting 11th. He moved
into 10th on the fourth lap and then began a steady march to the front.
After battling Shane Stewart for a few laps, he got around him and then
Jason Sides, before working on Joey Saldana. He then set his sights on Sam
Hafertepe Jr. and fellow North Dakotan Mark Dobmeier. With 11 laps to go,
Schatz found himself in the Top-Five. He powered his way past Dollansky on
the next lap, before gaining a spot on the 35th lap when Jac Haudenschild
had his off-track excursion exiting the third and fourth turns. This put him
in third, behind Meyers and Madsen.
Dollansky led the 36th lap and would up second in a specially painted
Aggressive Hydraulics Maxim, after starting fifth. It was his 22nd Top-10
finish in 23 events this season as he continues to chase Schatz and Meyers
in the standings.
“It would have been nice to have been one more spot better, but we were
struggling,” said Dollansky. “The car wasn’t what we were looking for in the
feature. We made a few changes that did not work out too well. It was a good
second-place effort. Donny (Schatz) did a good job and they had a good race
car. We had the Aggressive Hydraulics car tonight and it would have been
nice to win for them.”
Joey Saldana started seventh aboard the Budweiser/Open Joist Mopar-powered
JEI and after losing a couple of spots early, he too steadily worked his way
to the front. He also was a benefactor after the contact between Madsen and
Meyers.
“It was a good finish,” noted Saldana. “We struggled all night and fell back
to ninth. We kept sticking with it. The top paid off for me at the end. I
think the bottom slicked off for those guys and I just stayed on the top. I
don’t know what happened at the end with (Jason) Meyers and (Kerry) Madsen,
but it put us in position to run in the Top-Three. It was a good night for
us.”
Sam Hafertepe Jr. had another strong night in the G.H. Plumbing J&J, as he
finished fourth. The sophomore driver has nine Top-10 finishes this season
as he continues to close in on his first win of the season, as well as
closing in on the Top-10 in the championship standings.
“We are really pleased with tonight,” said the native of Sunnyvale, Texas.
“If the car hadn’t been so tight, we might have had a better shot at the
win. We’ll take a fourth. It was a really good win for the team. We are just
performing so well right now. The motors are running good and we are excited
for the races coming up.”
Daryn Pittman was fifth in the Titan Garages Maxim, with Haudenschild in
sixth in the Owerns-Corning Fiberglass Maxim. Mark Dobmeier, a native of
Grand Forks was seventh in the Senske & Son J&J. Chad Kemenah was eighth in
the Kantor Oil Company Maxim, with Steve Kinser in the Q Oil Maxim ninth and
Jason Sides in the Wetherington Tractor Service Maxim rounded out the
Top-10.
The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series wraps up the Duel
in the Dakotas on Saturday night at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo,
in the second event of the Gerdau Ameristeel Northern Tour.

A Perfect Fit: River Cities Speedway Suits Haudenschild
Just Fine
Grand Forks, ND— June 26, 2008—If ever there was a track that was perfectly
suited for Jac Haudenschild’s always aggressive, no holds barred, take no
prisoners driving style, it would River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks,
North Dakota. The high-banked three-tenths-mile bullring lends itself to
side-by-side racing with blazing fast speeds as the drivers run just inches
off of the wall, with all of this happening in just about 10 seconds each
lap.
Haudenschild will visit River Cities Speedway for the second consecutive
season with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on
Friday, June 27 in the opener of the Gerdau Ameristeel Northern Tour which
will encompass a total of four events in the state of North Dakota this
weekend, along with the final two races in August. This weekend’s race will
be part of the Duel in the Dakotas which will wrap up at Red River Valley
Speedway on Saturday, June 28. Haudenschild won the overall title for the
Duel in the Dakotas last season, after finishing second at River Cities
Speedway and winning at Red River Valley Speedway.
“Short tracks are always fun to race on,” said the veteran driver in regards
to his return to River Cities Speedway. “They have always put a good show on
there in the past and I imagine it will be the same way this year. We can’t
wait to get up there.”
River Cities Speedway is one of just three tracks on the 2008 Advance Auto
Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series schedule at which the drivers turn
sub-10 second laps. Last season, the quickest lap in time trials at the
high-banked track was 9.952 seconds, while the track record is 9.66 seconds.
Haudenschild would like nothing more than to break the track record on
Friday night, as the best sprint car drivers in the world invade the track
for a full night of racing, capped off by a 40-lap main event.
“It does feel pretty quick behind the wheel,” noted the native of Wooster,
Ohio. “At the short tracks you get around them pretty fast. The track over
there is usually pretty tacky and very racy. We look to get the (No.) R19 up
front there.”
The event at River Cities Speedway will be one of three events this season
for the World of Outlaws on three-tenths-mile tracks, which is the same
number of races the series had on that size track last season. The series
has competed a couple of times on 1/3-mile tracks this year, with
Haudenschild finishing sixth or better in both of those events. Behind the
wheel, things happen a lot quicker on bullrings and a few subtle changes are
made when the teams are preparing to run a smaller track.
“You put a short track set-up on the car and run more stagger,” explained
Haudenschild. “Usually the car gets around tracks like that pretty good. We
have been good on the small tracks and the big tracks this year. We look to
keep that up this weekend.”
Haudenschild won in his debut at River Cities Speedway in 1999, holding off
fellow World of Outlaws driver Craig Dollansky for the triumph in weekly
competition. In four career starts at the three-tenths mile track, he has
four finishes of seventh or better, with three of those being in the
Top-Three. He made a late charge on Joey Saldana last season to make a bid
for the win, coming up just inches short at the line in a photo finish that
had the capacity crowd on their feet. He liked up 13th for that event and
passed more cars that anyone else in attendance, to earn the KSE Racing
Products Hard Charger Award.
“We like going up there,” Haudenschild shared. “There are a lot of good fans
up there. This will be our first trip to North Dakota in the Lon Carnahan
car, so hopefully we can put it in victory lane.”
The veteran driver has been close to winning a number of times this season.
In his first year behind the wheel for the Carnahan Motorsports team aboard
the Owens-Corning Fiberglass Maxim, he is fifth in World of Outlaws
championship points on the strength of 15 Top-10 finishes, with eight of
those being in the Top-Five.
“Sometimes it is toughest to get that first win of the year,” he admitted.
“We have been pretty quick on most nights and we plan to get a win here
pretty quick.”
Haudenschild is very proud of how hard his crew has worked this season and
how quick he has gelled with crew chief Leonard Lee. He also has been
thrilled at how fast the team has been each and every night out of the box.
He has raced his way into the Crane Cams Dash in 10 of the last 13 events,
which have helped him earn Top-10 starting positions in all of those
A-Feature events. He also has won the Crane Cams Dash twice this season to
earn pole positions, and he also has been quickest in time trials once this
season.
“Leonard (Lee) and Marie (Lapointe) have been doing a great job,” said
Haudenschild of his crew. “The car has been fast every time out and we have
a very competitive motor. Every thing is going pretty good right now. We’ll
just keep at it and keep working hard.”
Haudenschild enters this weekend’s trio of events beginning at River Cities
Speedway riding a streak of five consecutive finishes of seventh or better,
as he closes in on his first A-Feature win of the season. He is currently
10th on the World of Outlaws all-time win list with 46 A-Feature triumphs
and looks to add to his success in the state of North Dakota.
“We have been close and had a lot of Top-Five finishes,” he stated. “I think
we’ll definitely have a good chance of winning there.”
On Friday, June 27 at River Cities Speedway, adult general admission tickets
will be $30 if purchased in advance or $32 the day of the race, with general
admission tickets for children (ages 6-12) $15, and kids 5-under will be
admitted free of charge in the general admission seating. Adult reserved
tickets will be $33 in advance or $35 the day of the race, with reserved
tickets for children 12-under $15.
Two-day tickets for the Duel in the Dakotas, including the event at Red
River Valley Speedway on Saturday, June 28 are also available by calling SLS
Promotions at: 815-344-2023 or visiting:
http://www.slspromotions.com.
There will also be a Meet & Greet at the Canad Inn located at 1000 South
42nd St. in Grand Forks, on Thursday, June 26 from 5-8 p.m. Central,
featuring several World of Outlaws drivers who will be on-hand to sign
autographs and meet with fans.

event fresh off his first A-Feature win of the season last weekend at Dodge
City Raceway Park in Kansas.
Jac Haudenschild won for the first time in his career at Red River Valley
Speedway last season. The native of Wooster, Ohio has 25 Top-10 finishes
over the years at the track. He is currently fifth in points, with 15 Top-10
finishes as he closes in on his first win of the season.
Steve Kinser has 16 total wins in his career at Red River Valley, including
preliminary features. He most recently visited the winners circle at the
track in 2005. He made his first start at the track in 1981 and finished in
the Top-Three in each of his first dozen starts there. The 20-time series
champion has won twice this season.
Kerry Madsen, the reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, made his first
start at the track last season. He won twice in 2007 on half-mile tracks,
including on the high-banked Perris Auto Speedway in California. He has
racked up 14 Top-10 finishes to open the 2008 campaign and is solidly in the
Top-10 in points.
Shane Stewart last competed at the half-mile in 2005, when he picked up
consecutive sixth-place finishes. The 2005 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year
recently moved into eighth in points on the strength of 12 Top-10 finishes,
including a win at Knoxville Raceway earlier this month.
Chad Kemenah, the 2006 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, has three career
starts at Red River Valley. He finished fourth last Friday night at Dodge
City Raceway Park, to earn his 10th Top-10 finish of the season.
Terry McCarl has four Top-10 finishes in his career at Red River Valley
Speedway, with three of those being Top-Five finishes. The Iowa native has
nine Top-10 finishes this season with the World of Outlaws and is currently
10th in points.
Daryn Pittman has nine career Top-10 finishes at the track, including in two
of his last three starts. The native of Owasso, Oklahoma has 11 Top-10
finishes this season, including his third Top-Five last weekend at Dodge
City Raceway Park.
Sam Hafertepe Jr. made his first start at Red River Valley Speedway last
season, finishing just outside of the Top-10. The sophomore driver from
Sunnyvale, Texas recently earned his eighth Top-10 finish of the season at
Dodge City Raceway Park, as he continues to close in on the Top-10 in
points.
Kraig Kinser will make his first start at the half-mile since 2005 this
weekend. He has six career Top-10 finishes at the track, including in four
of the last six events he has competed in there.
Jason Sides finished second last season at Red River Valley Speedway, and
has three Top-10 finishes in his last four starts at the half-mile. The 2003
Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has four Top-10 finishes this season.
Tony Bruce Jr. made his first start at Red River Valley Speedway last season
during his rookie campaign with the World of Outlaws. The native of Liberal,
Kansas won an event with the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) on Tuesday
night at I-90 Speedway in South Dakota.
Chad Hillier also made his first start at the high-banked half-mile last
season. The Washington native has one Top-10 finish this season and is just
outside of the Top-15 in points.
Paul McMahan will return to World of Outlaws action this weekend, behind the
wheel of the No. 6 machine for the Parsons Motorsports team. He has eight
career Top-10 finishes at Red River Valley Speedway and finished ninth there
last season.
Lucas Wolfe, the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year
Award this season will miss the event as he continues to recover from a back
injury suffered earlier this month.
2007 Race Recap: Jac Haudenschild earned his first career win at Red River
Valley Speedway after starting third and taking advantage of Brooke Tatnell
having a flat left rear tire late in the race.
The race started with Jason Sides on the pole leading and opening up a
sizeable advantage before he and Tatnell encountered heavy lapped traffic.
On the 11th lap Tatnell dove low in the first turn and took the lead from
Sides. The very next lap, Haudenschild ducked under Sides for the runner-up
spot.
The red flag flew on the 15th lap for Jason Meyers, giving Haudenschild and
Sides a shot at Tatnell on the restart. The native of San Souci, NSW,
Australia used a strong restart to pull away before encountering lapped
traffic, which helped Haudenschild close on him.
After Tatnell’s misfortune, Sides inherited the second spot, where he would
eventually finish the 30-lap contest.
Joey Saldana was third, with Randy Hannagan fourth and Danny Lasoski fifth.

Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
Preview: River Cities Speedway
Grand Forks, ND— June 24, 2008—Ever since the 2008 Advance Auto Parts World
of Outlaws Sprint Car Series schedule was announced most of the drivers had
Friday, June 27 circled on their calendars. That’s because the series will
make their second consecutive visit to the blazing fast, high-banked, River
Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The track is one of just three
tracks on the schedule where the drivers flirt with sub-10-second laps. The
race will serve as the opener of the 2008 Gerdau Ameristeel Northern Tour,
which will encompass four tracks in the state of North Dakota beginning this
weekend and wrapping up in August.
Donny Schatz, the two-time defending Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws
champion who hails from North Dakota, has one career win at River Cities
Speedway, with that coming in 1995. He finished third in the World of
Outlaws debut at the track last season. He currently leads the series with
seven A-Feature wins, including in the series most recent event at Dodge
City Raceway Park in Kansas. Schatz leads the championship standings by 55
markers over Jason Meyers, and is the only driver that has finished in the
Top-10 in all 22 events this season.
Jason Meyers has three career Top-10 finishes at River Cities Speedway,
including a runner-up performance in 2000 in a World of Outlaws Gumout
Series event at the track. The native of Clovis, California leads the series
with 18 Top-Five finishes in 2008, as he continues to chase his first World
of Outlaws title. He has won five A-Feature wins this season.
Craig Dollansky is a former winner at River Cities Speedway, taking the
checkered flag in 2000 holding off Meyers in that World of Outlaws Gumout
Series event. In three starts at the high-banked three-tenths mile, he has
three finishes of eighth or better. The Minnesota native has four A-Feature
wins this season, to go along with 21 Top-10 finishes in 22 starts. He is
currently third in the championship point standings.
Joey Saldana turned in an impressive performance in his debut at River
Cities Speedway last season. Having never seen the track until the afternoon
of the race, he proceeded to set fast time in time trials, win a heat race,
win the Crane Cams Dash and then win the A-Feature, leading all 40 laps. The
second generation driver recently won his first event of the season at Dodge
City Raceway Park in Kansas. He is fourth in points on the strength of 19
Top-10 finishes.
Jac Haudenschild won in his debut at River Cities Speedway in 1999, holding
off fellow World of Outlaws driver Craig Dollansky for the triumph in weekly
competition. In four career starts at the three-tenths mile track, he has
four finishes of seventh or better, with three of those being in the
Top-Three. He made a late charge on Saldana last season to make a bid for
the win, coming up just inches short at the line in a photo finish that had
the capacity crowd on their feet.
Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion has made three starts in
his career at the track, earning two Top-10 finishes, including a third in
2006 with the National Sprint Tour. Kinser has two A-Feature wins this
season and is just six points out of the Top-Five in the standings, on the
strength of 12 Top-10 finishes.
Kerry Madsen, the reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner
finished fifth at River Cities Speedway last season. He has two Top-10
finishes in three career starts at the high-banked track. The native of St.
Mary’s, NSW, Australia has 14 Top-10 finishes this season and is seventh in
points.
Shane Stewart has made nine career starts at River Cities Speedway, earning
two wins in 2001 with the World of Outlaws Gumout Series. He has seven
career Top-10 finishes at the track and was fifth in his last visit there in
2006. He has won once this year and is currently eight in points on the
strength of 12 Top-10 finishes driving for the Roth Motorsports team.
Chad Kemenah made his first career start at River Cities Speedway last
season. The 2006 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year is currently ninth in
points, with 10 Top-10 finishes. He finished fourth last Friday night at
Dodge City Raceway Park.
Terry McCarl has won twice at River Cities Speedway during his career. The
first win for the veteran driver was in 1999 and he followed that up with
another triumph in 2003. He has six career Top-10 finishes at the
high-banked track. The native of Altoona, Iowa has nine Top-10 finishes this
season as he is 10th in points.
Daryn Pittman has made three starts in his career at the three-tenths mile,
earning finishes of sixth or better in each of those events. He recently
matched his season best performance with a runner-up finish at Dodge City
Raceway Park. The native of Owasso, Oklahoma is just outside of the Top-10
in points.
Sam Hafertepe Jr. made his first career start at the track last season. The
sophomore driver from Sunnyvale, Texas earned two Top-10 finishes last
weekend at Dodge City Raceway Park and has eight on the season, as he
continues to close in on the Top-10 in points.
Kraig Kinser, the 2004 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has four career
starts at River Cities Speedway and has finished in the Top-Five in all of
those. His best finish of the lot was in 2001, when he was second in a World
of Outlaws Gumout Series race at the track. He recently picked up his fifth
Top-10 finishes of the season.
Jason Sides has five Top-10 finishes at River Cities Speedway in his career.
He finished third in his debut at the track back in 1999. The 2003 Kevin
Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has four Top-10 finishes this season.
Tim Shaffer made his first career start at the track last season, finishing
just outside of the Top-10. The 1999 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year has
four Top-10 finishes this season, with two of those being in the Top-Five.
Tony Bruce Jr. made his first start at River Cities Speedway last season
during his rookie campaign with the World of Outlaws. The native of Liberal,
Kansas picked up a Top-Five finish at the famed Knoxville Raceway a couple
of weeks ago.
Chad Hillier, who continues his sophomore season with the World of Outlaws
also made his debut at River Cities Speedway last season. The Washington
native earned a Top-10 finish at Tri-City Speedway earlier this month and
has been running very consistent the last few weeks.
Lucas Wolfe, the leading contender for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year
Award this season will miss the event after suffering a back injury at
Tri-City Speedway earlier this month.
2007 Race Recap: Joey Saldana became the first driver in 2007 to put
together a clean sweep of a racing program at at World of Outlaws event,
turning the quickest lap in time trials, winning a heat race, winning the
Crane Cams Dash and eventually claiming the A-Feature event, leading all 40
laps of the main event in the process.
Saldana held off a furious charge by Jac Haudsenchild over the last two laps
to earn the $10,000 payday by just 0.056 seconds, to mark the third closest
finish of the season. Donny Schatz who battled Saldana for most of the race
finished third, with Danny Lasoski fourth and Kerry Madsen fifth.
The race began with Saldana leading from the pole, with Steve Kinser quickly
jumping into second. On the seventh lap, Kinser took the lead exiting the
second turn in traffic, but Saldana powered back around the 20-time World of
Outlaw champion coming off the fourth turn to officially be scored the
leader at the line.
The pair along with Donny Schatz in third would continue to encounter dense
traffic on the high-banked, high speed track. Saldana, Kinser and Schatz
were bottled up in traffic for a couple of laps, before Schatz used the low
side of the track to take the second spot from Kinser on the 26th lap. The
red flag flew on the next go-around for an accident involving Kinser, who
was running third at the time.
On the ensuing restart, Schatz would pressure Saldana for a number of laps,
nearly taking the lead on several occasions. Schatz did take the lead on the
33 lap, but that was negated due to the caution flag flying. By way of World
of Outlaws rules, a full lap must be scored for that lap to count. Thus,
Schatz lined up in the second spot for the restart.
After enduring a couple more cautions, the three leaders were set for a
two-lap shootout as the green flag flew. Haudenschild looked low entering
the first turn, but could not quite make the pass. He tried the exact same
move the next lap and took the leading as the pair exited the second turn.
Joey Saldana used the momentum from the high side of the race track to power
down the front straightaway and edged Haudenschild by mere inches at the
line, in one of the most exciting races of the season, before a packed
grandstand, with Schatz finishing third.
Danny Lasoski, the 2001 World of Outlaws champion finished fourth with Kerry
Madsen rounding out the Top-Five.

Seventh Heaven: Schatz Wins Finale of Boot Hill
Showdown to Earn Seventh Win of 2008 & First Career Win at Dodge City
Raceway Park
Dodge City, KS— June 21, 2008— There are
not too many tracks on the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car
Series schedule that two-time defending series champion Donny Schatz has not
won at. One those places just happened to be Dodge City Raceway Park in
Kansas, where the World of Outlaws competed in the Boot Hill Showdown this
weekend. When the dust settled in the finale of the event on Saturday night,
Schatz found himself in the winner’s circle at the state-of-the-art
3/8-mile, to earn his seventh A-Feature win of the season, with the cameras
from SPEED capturing all of the action before a standing room only, sellout
crowd.
Schatz took the lead from Daryn Pittman on the 27th lap on the high side of
the second turn, after Pittman was held up by a lapped machine. Schatz
nearly took the lead the lap before as he went to the high side of turn
four.
The North Dakota native lined up sixth for the 30-lap event and picked up
two spots on the opening lap, getting around Sam Hafertepe Jr. and Joey
Saldana. He powered his way around Shane Stewart on the third lap to move
into third, next setting his sights on Craig Dollansky, who he would
overtake on the next lap.
“It was fun tonight,” said Schatz, after climbing from the Armor All J&J. “I
can’t say enough about this whole team. These guys definitely had the Armor
All shine tonight. I didn’t know what it would be like when it took rubber.
When he slowed down on the bottom and I was running second, I had nothing to
lose. I just tried smoking around the top and just barely had enough tire to
do it. There was plenty of race track left up there. It was pretty
challenging, but we got it done.”
During his career with the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car
Series, Schatz has won at 46 different tracks, including three in the state
of Kansas. He has 77 career A-Feature wins, including a series-best seven
this season and is just four triumphs short of breaking into the Top-Five on
the all-time win list. He picked up $10,000 for his win on Saturday night.
“It always means something to come to a place you have never won at and
win,” he noted. “I have really never felt that good racing here. I have
qualified well several times and have the track record. To come out and win
tonight after not having that great of a race car last night feels good. We
found it in time for the feature tonight.”
Schatz nearly took the lead from Pittman on the 10th lap as the pair was
entering lapped traffic. He was even with the leader and had a run on him
when the caution flag came out, putting him in second for the restart.
Pittman pulled away on the ensuing restart, but the caution flag would fly
again on the 16th lap, bunching the field up and giving Schatz a couple of
more chances to battle for the lead.
“It was my job to figure out how I was going to pass him,” explained Schatz.
“I knew I wasn’t going to pass him on the bottom in the rubber and I had not
choice. I had everything to gain and nothing to lose. I come here to win and
if I can’t win, I’ll go down trying.”
While most of the leaders including Schatz did not have much left on their
right rear tire, he was more focused on doing whatever it took to give
himself a shot at winning the race than worrying about his tire. He remains
the only driver that has finished in the Top-10 in every World of Outlaws
event this season.
“There was a couple of laps at the end when I slid it in and didn’t grab the
corner much,” Schatz shared. “I knew I had used my tires up. When I rode it
in high, I smoked it in there pretty hard and probably used more tire up
there than any other time. It worked and got the job done.”
Pittman led 26 laps on the night en route to the runner-up finish in the
Titan Garages Maxim. He had a couple of healthy advantages over the course
of the 30-lap contest, one that was negated by a caution and another that
shrank when he was held up by a lapped machine. For Pittman, the
second-place performance matched his season-best finish.
“I could sit here and complain about finishing second, but I won’t do that,”
said Pittman. “My hat is off to those guys. When you are leading in rubber
and there is a question of another line, second-place is the spot to be. I’m
disappointed, but my crew told me that I did nothing wrong and we just got
beat.”
While he would have liked nothing more than to have won at Dodge City
Raceway Park for the second consecutive season, Pittman was pleased with his
finish on Saturday night, after a rash of bad luck that his team has endured
during the early portion of the 2008 campaign.
“Our car was good and we know that our car was good enough to win,” he said.
“That’s a big encouragement because we have been struggling. We think we
have found some stuff and can hopefully get this thing going in the right
direction. Hopefully we can get better from here. It’s a Top-Five finish and
that is hard to complain about.”
Joey Saldana backed up his win on Friday night in the opener of the Boot
Hill Showdown with a strong third-place run on Saturday night. The native of
Brownsburg, Indiana started third in the Budweiser/Open Joist Mopar-powered
JEI and fell back to sixth on the opening lap, before dropping another
position on the fourth circuit. He then steadily worked his way back to the
front.
First, he got around Chad Kemenah on the fifth lap, before working his way
past Steve Kinser and Shane Stewart. He was back up to third by just the
10th lap, and would try several times to run down Pittman.
“The start really hurt us,” explained Saldana, who won on Friday night at
Dodge City. “We were back to about seventh. I think we were a little tight
getting into the rubber and wore our tire out. I was running the top and got
to third, but then was just too tight to run up there. I think (Donny)
Schatz moved up there because of that. You could make some speed up there.
That’s the way it goes and we got a good solid finish. It was a good run for
us and we didn’t fall out.”
Craig Dollansky earned his seventh consecutive Top-Five finish as he was
fourth in the Auto Value Parts Stores Maxim on Saturday night. The Minnesota
native started fourth and moved into third on the opening lap, before taking
the runner-up spot from Shane Stewart just two laps later. He ran second for
a couple of laps before Schatz got around him.
“I felt best when we were running the top and were second to Daryn
(Pittman),” said Dollansky. “I felt comfortable there and thought we may
have had a car good enough to win the race. When the rubber came in, Donny
(Schatz) got underneath me and I knew that the rubber was there. I dropped
down into the rubber groove and that is where I ran to finish the race off.”
Steve Kinser finished fifth in the Q Oil Maxim, after being fastest in time
trials for the second consecutive night. The 20-time series champion lined
up eighth and picked up three spots on the opening lap.
Shane Stewart finished sixth in the Roth Motorsports KCP, with Jac
Haudenschild in seventh aboard the Owens-Corning Fiberglass Maxim. Jason
Meyers was eighth in the GLR Investments KPC, while Sam Hafertepe Jr. was
ninth in the G.H. Plumbing J&J. Kraig Kinser rounded out the Top-10 in the
Bass Pro Shops Maxim.
Chad Kemenah was running seventh in the Kantor Oil Company Maxim before a
mechanical problem ended his night just past the halfway mark of the race.
He and his team had to change an engine during the Crane Cams Dash, thus
forcing him to miss that event, in which he was scheduled to start second.
He started 10th in the A-Feature and gained several spots early in the race.
The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action
on Friday, June 28 at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota for
the first round of the Gerdau Ameristeel Northern Tour.
